Surgery for Hiatus Hernia changed my life
Hi, I am Christine a 62 year old woman, I have had a hiatus hernia for over 20 years. In the early years it wasn't too bad. Once I had eventually even diagnosed and given medication. Over the years I have had to change the medication, my last ones were Esomeprazole.
The last few years though the the medication didn't work so well and I have felt tired, often I would vomit and felt uncomfortable and my clothes felt tighter as the day went on. I found that more and more foods and drink would upset me. I had a cough all those years and would often have to sleep almost sat upright and would keep my husband up all night with the cough. Sometimes it felt like I was having a heart attach with the pain. Eventually I was sent for tests and referred to Prof Senapati, he put me at ease and explained what would happen in the operation.
I was soon in hospital and he came to see me before the operation. The hospital staff from the nurses and doctors to the dietitians were all friendly and caring. I stayed in hospital overnight and was really looked after. I had a sloppy diet for a few weeks and slowly built up my diet until eventually I was back to my normal food. I felt tired at first but started to feel better very soon.
I went back to see Prof Senapati for a check and was discharged as I was doing so well but told that if I had any problems at all to go back any time. It has been four months since my operation and it has changed my life. I still have a slight cough when I first go to bed but it only lasts a few seconds and it is improving over time as he said it would. I have not taken a tablet since the operation which I still find hard to believe and have not been sick, I am feeling better all the time. I would highly recommend to anyone to go to see Prof Senapati and have full confidence in him and all the nursing staff. I wish I had been referred to him years ago.
