I don’t have any regrets, it’s the best decision i have ever made and only wish i had done it sooner

I had my gastric sleeve surgery carried out by Professor Senapti on the 5th September 2023 in Manchester, the procedure date was booked and mutually agreed at a consultation in July 23.

Prior to this I had seen Prof Senapati in January 2020 with surgery planned for March 2020, I cancelled 3 days before surgery due the start the COVID pandemic.

My surgery went well and as expected, I did not experience any of the expected gas pain discomfort nor any pain or discomfort from my incisions, they had fully healed within two weeks. Post op I followed the liquid and soft food diet regimes and comfortably accomplished the protein targets.

At my 6 week follow up appointment in October my blood tests revealed I was no longer in the pre diabetic range and my blood pressure was normal, I was taken off medication and this has remained the case since.

I am now 7 months post op and have lost over 100lbs of weight, approximately 57% of my excess body weight. I am back in the gym, walking regularly and generally getting around and completing every day routine tasks much much easier. I look and feel so much better and healthier.

I initially avoided alcohol in the 4 months after surgery but now find I can enjoy a drink again with friends at weekends in moderation, I also eat out regularly and have adapted my ordering to reflect the restriction I now have and find I am happy and full with a starter as a main meal, this ordering seems to have been accepted by all restaurants without question or any embarrassment.

In the 7 months since the operation I have attended 3 follow up appointments with Jaqui my assigned dietician from the clinic and have had two meetings with Professor Senapati where I have been reviewed, weighed, talked though any issues and received excellent advice, with it being made clear at each meeting that if I have any issues I am to call them and this would be welcomed.

In summary, i don’t have any regrets, it’s the best decision i have ever made and only wish i had done it sooner.
