Becoming Healthier and Slimmer

Having made the decision to take control of my future, I searched online for information about weight loss surgery. I found Professor Senapati and his team based at BMI Cheadle and from the first contact with his secretary, they couldn’t have been more helpful or reassuring. After years of being embarrassed about my weight , the whole team were non judgmental and just positive about the way forward. Following pre-op consultations and tests, it was decided that a vertical sleeve gastrectomy was best for me, and my surgery was booked for mid April 2021.
The care I received as an inpatient was excellent, undertaken by doctors and nurses who had empathy and experience in bariatric surgery and recovery. My surgery went well and I was discharged after 2 days with armfuls of information and post op care instructions! I am now six months post surgery and can honestly say it is the best thing I ever did for myself; my only regret is not doing it 10 years earlier.
I have lost almost 6 stone so far, and am still losing slowly and steadily. I have gone from dress size 22 to 14 and look years younger! The health benefits have been massive for me. I was on medication for high blood pressure which I no longer need. My aches and pains in my hips and knees have reduced so that I use way less pain medication and I can walk for miles now and enjoy it!
I have far more energy, confidence and self esteem. I respect myself so I think others respect me more as well.
I am loving trying out new clothes, and being able to shop in any clothes shop I want; not just the plus sizes!
I have just had my 6 month follow up appointment with the team who were able to advise me over diet and exercise going forward. I am on track with all my blood results and have lost 66% of my excess weight, which is mind blowing!
My biggest non scale victories so far? Being able to fasten the seat belt on a plane after fitting in the seat comfortably; parasailing with my daughter in Greece; fitting into a seat at the theatre; wearing a bikini…in public!!
I honestly love the new freedom and zest for life that the VSG has given me; you still need to work at it and commit to lifestyle changes but the feeling of becoming healthier and slimmer is so much better than having another piece of chocolate!
